If you find yourself in Santorini in the 20th of July, you should definitely consider the religious festival ("panigyri" in Greek) organised by the Prophet Elias Monastery in celebration of its namesake. Located on one of the highest points of the island, in the village of Pyrgos, the Monastery organises a big feast during which you can enjoy delicious food, wine, dancing, and of course the magnificent landscapes, to the sounds of traditional music.

In August 4th, you have the chance to attend a religious festival that presents a unique experience. Agioi Epta Paides is a church built inside a hidden cave in the island's caldera, reachable only by boat. There, you can enjoy local specialties, such as fava and delicious wine, as well as the breathtaking view and the always refreshing boat trip towards the church.
THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN
The most important event of the Orthodox summer calendar is of course celebrated spectacularly all over the island, with the church of Panagia Episkopi in Mesa Gonia in the centre of the festivities. In August 15th, as well as the few days before and after that day, you will enjoy local food and wine, music, and grand celebrations in every village in Santorini.
REENACTMENT OF THE VOLCANIC EXPLOSION
A unique event, it happens every summer around mid-August. It is a spectacular show organised by the locals, where with plenty of fireworks, concerts, and of course feasts, the volcano metaphorically explodes again.
